David, Age 13 Homophobia
in Middle School There are many people who are racist, sexist, or against other ideas and subjects. One area that faces the most discrimination is homosexuality. People have said awful things of homosexuals like "that's so gay" or other negative thoughts toward them. These are phrases and reactions I hear in my environment a lot and it sickens me.
Many people think of homosexuality as a disease, a mental illness, a sin, and many other notions that are not true. People see homosexuality as something wrong because of their behavior. I don't really care about their behavior, what I care about is how they are by knowing them. I don't judge people by their color, skin, looks, culture, or beliefs. I judge people by their attitudes.
Also, some people don't know their own sexuality until their late teens. Many homosexuals have been in danger, like hurt and/or killed because of their orientation, and that's just plain wrong. I'm not trying to change your mind, I'm just trying to open your mind and help you see things differently. I hope everyone could be respectful and kind to those who are homosexual and realize that they're not different from people, they still are humans, living things with feelings. |
